The bike chain is a crucial element in the operation of our bicycle and often is not given the importance and care it requires for proper maintenance.

The chain takes up clearance as we use it, there comes a time when the gap between links grows to the point where the gears jump or do not mesh well with the teeth.
There is a specific tool for this, a gauge of the slack that the chain has. Simply insert the pins into the holes between links, if the tool does not go all the way to the bottom it means that it is still in condition, if the tool easily enters the gap we must change the chain as soon as possible.
